Sean Kirsten – BspSc, MSc

Sean Kirsten used to be an obese mining logistics manager with cholesterol of 10. He visited Royal North Shore Hospital more often than he visited his mother and doctors said he was a walking heart attack.

What a difference a year makes. Now when Sean, 43, shows his ID at the bank, the tellers don’t believe it’s the same person. He’s lost 40kg, is fit, toned and healthy with

cholesterol of 3.4. What’s more, he is now a successful Exercise Physiologist and

accredited practicing dietitian and whose inspiring story has been featured on televisions, in magazines and newspapers and he is also a regular guest expert giving advice to listeners on Sydney’s radio 2UE and Brisbane 4BC.

Sean’s amazing journey began when he was selected to appear on Channel Nine’s weight loss reality program back in January 2002.

Unlike programs like The Biggest Loser in which participants are locked away in a

house, this was all about realistic, sustainable lifestyle change through healthy diet and realistic exercise. In just 14 weeks sean lost an amazing 38kg. And rather than going backwards once the cameras stopped rolling, he continued his healthy ways and have now lost44kg in just 12 months.

Sean’s amazing journey led him to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) and also complete a Bachelor of Science (Nutrition) Honours As one of the few personal trainers (Exercise Physiologist) and an accredited practicing dietitian who can truly say they have “been there” and know what it’s like to get puffed out in an elevator, let alone walking up stairs, he is in demand for one-on-one training and tailored eating plains plus corporate health and wellness programs.

By sharing his story, Sean wants Australians, in the grip of this obesity epidemic, to see that he is living proof of what is possible – that even when you feel like a lost cause that you’re not. Sean has already helped transform many clients’ lives and his mission is to spread the word that everyone can do this and live, not just longer, but better.
